Her real name is Fatemeh Vaezi and she was born on March 15th 1950 in Shahsavar. But it is Parissa that is the stage-name that has become synonymous with one of the most beautiful voices in classic Iranian music. Her studies in classic literature have nurtured her thoughtful approach to this refined art. Parissa worked for the national radio-television stations before the Iranian revolution cut short her career. This was because, as she tactfully puts it, “there was disturbances in musical affairs (sic)”. For 15 years, she devoted herself to her three children and Teheran’s Centre of Preservation and Dissemination of Music. In 1995, Parissa returned to her international music career and has been touring ever since.
